Finger Lakes & Lake Erie's North Shore
April 16, 2016
Time: 3:00pm
Location: Wrentham, MA

Finger Lakes & Lake Erie's North Shore
Today, the domestic wine market is dominated by California and the other regions of the Pacific Northwest, Washington State and Oregon, but it was not always this way. Back in the 1960’s, New York was the dominant region, producing a wide range of wines that were either infinitely forgettable, or infamously unforgettable. Interestingly, as wine production improves and grows in states outside of the west coast, so too have the wines of New York improved and grown. This is also true of the wines from southern Canada’s Lake Erie region. A recent trip to both areas yielded very promising results with all manner of wine taking center stage. At this event we will examine several wines, white, red, sparkling, dry and sweet that demonstrate that New York and Canada are contenders in the fine wine arena.

Beaujolais
Beaujolais is one of the most misunderstood wine region... First, most people only know of the marketing sensation that is Beaujolais Nouveau, which is often more hype than great wine. Second, the region has a bit of an identity crisis - is it part of Burgundy or the Rhone, and regardless of regional affiliation, who knows anything about the Gamay grape? Well, I'm happy to tell you that Beaujolais is much more than the Nouveau hype and that Gamay can make very serious wine. At this event we will examine several wines from many of the finer sub-regions, or "crus" within Beaujolais, focusing on high-quality and distinctive wines.
